This music is rooted in the aesthetic of contemporary jazz. It features specific elements such as: the impact cell (rhythmic melody, clave, taléa), random motion, and Olivier Messiaen’s modes. These compositions can be seen as a kind of quest for a primal sound. The compositional system—connected to chance—is an attempt at a phenomenological analysis of our physical and mental experience of sound. It is precisely these learning mechanisms that Vincent brings to the fore with the participating musicians—a delicate blend of chance and playful constraints, where listening to the other becomes an absolute necessity in order to play together.
